American Legion Post 290 defeats High School for Law and Justice
Shooting their highest score of the season American Legion Post 290 defeated High School for Law and Justice 1001.3 to 591.2 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row. With the win, American Legion Post 290 is in ninth place overall and fourth place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. They currently have a 2 - 0 record. American Legion Post 290 was led by, Sameer Singh who shot a 258.7. The remaining contributing members were Joseph Born, Elizabeth Gunn, and Lillie Miller. American Legion Post 290 is from Stafford, VA, and is coached by Mike Flanigan.
High School for Law and Justice currently has a 0 - 1 record. Shooting their highest team score of the season High School for Law and Justice was led by, Romualdo Medina who shot a 176.3. The remaining contributing members were Javier Barba, Donatella Marin, and Daniel Russell. High School for Law and Justice is from Houston, TX, and is coached by Rian Harden.
This coming week American Legion Post 290 has a bye week. While High School for Law and Justice will compete against Smithson Valley NJROTC from Spring Branch, TX. Smithson Valley NJROTC currently has a 1 - 0 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
