Waller AFJROTC Narrowly Defeats Union HS AFJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Waller AFJROTC edged out Union HS AFJROTC 939.8 to 920.7 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win, Waller AFJROTC is in fifth place within their 'Air Force Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 4 - 2 record. Waller AFJROTC was led by, Joseph Camann who shot a 250.3. The remaining contributing members were King Adam, Isaiha Rivas, and Priscilla Ayala. Waller AFJROTC is from Waller, TX, and is coached by Lt Col Byrl Engel.
Snapping a thre game win streak Union HS AFJROTC currently has a 3 - 1 record. After the loss they are in fourth place within their 'Air Force Jrotc' conference. Union HS AFJROTC was led by, Abigail Sotomayor who shot a 234.5. The remaining contributing members were Ximena De la cruz, Payge Wilson, and Chloe Shannon. Union HS AFJROTC is from Broken Arrow, OK, and is coached by Rick Turner.
This coming week Waller AFJROTC has a bye week. While Union HS AFJROTC will compete against Sebastian River NJROTC from Sebastian, Uni. Sebastian River NJROTC currently has a 3 - 2 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
