Lumen Christi High School defeats Wren NJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Lumen Christi High School defeated Wren NJROTC 951.7 to 916.2 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win, Lumen Christi High School is in seventh place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. They currently have a 3 - 2 record. Lumen Christi High School was led by, Francesca Locke who shot a 262.1. The remaining contributing members were Brooke Ahrenholz, Liv Crosby, and Joseph Moriarty. Lumen Christi High School is from Anchorage, AK, and is coached by Brian A Ross.
Wren NJROTC currently has a 1 - 5 record. Wren NJROTC was led by, Tyler Morrison who shot a 270.2. The remaining contributing members were Natalie Gilmore, Cadence Whiten, and London Yackanicz. Wren NJROTC is from Piedmont, SC, and is coached by CDR Kevin Borden, USN (Ret).
This coming week Lumen Christi High School has a bye week. While Wren NJROTC will compete against Sebastian River NJROTC from Sebastian, Uni. Sebastian River NJROTC currently has a 3 - 3 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
