Eldorado NJROTC defeats Smithson Valley NJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Eldorado NJROTC defeated Smithson Valley NJROTC 994.7 to 970.5 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row. With the win, Eldorado NJROTC is in eighth place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 2 - 3 record. Eldorado NJROTC was led by, Noelani Lopez who shot a 266.1. The remaining contributing members were James Prunty, Jonathan Sanchez, and Isabella Dominguez. Eldorado NJROTC is from Las Vegas, NV, and is coached by Maj Todd Hook.
Snapping a four game win streak Smithson Valley NJROTC currently has a 4 - 1 record. After the loss they are in ninth place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. Shooting their highest team score of the season Smithson Valley NJROTC was led by, Josh Velasquez who shot a 246.8. The remaining contributing members were Cruz Overson, Sebastian Ibarra, and Mathieu Juarez. Smithson Valley NJROTC is from Spring Branch, TX, and is coached by Scott Outlaw.
Next up Eldorado NJROTC will compete against A. C. Mosley MCJROTC from Lynn Haven, FL. A. C. Mosley MCJROTC currently has a 1 - 4 record. While Smithson Valley NJROTC will compete against Pueblo West AJROTC from Pueblo West, CO. Pueblo West AJROTC currently has a 3 - 2 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
