Kamehameha Schools Hawai'i defeats Timber Beasts
Kamehameha Schools Hawai'i defeated Timber Beasts 1121.7 to 1032.1 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their seventh win in a row. Kamehameha Schools Hawai'i finishes the season in first place overall and first place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. They finished the season with a 7 - 0 record. Kamehameha Schools Hawai'i was led by, Colby Terlep who shot a 286.6. The remaining contributing members were Briani Iyo, Kylie Iwamoto, and Ciara Ortega. Kamehameha Schools Hawai'i is from Keaau, HI, and is coached by Kelly Galdones.
Timber Beasts finished the season with a 3 - 4 record. They finishes the season in eleventh place overall and third place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. Timber Beasts was led by, Jessamy Winkler who shot a 268.5. The remaining contributing members were Irene VanDyke, Emily Heller, and Carter Halvorson. Timber Beasts is from Cornelius, OR, and is coached by Lonnie Winkler.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
