Las Vegas AJROTC defeats Atrisco Heritage Academy MCJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Las Vegas AJROTC defeated Atrisco Heritage Academy MCJROTC 919.7 to 648.9 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row. They currently have a 5 - 2 record. Las Vegas AJROTC was led by, Daisy Terrones who shot a 254.2. The remaining contributing members were Mirrah Bazilio, Jacob Hibbert, and Aubrey Patawaran. Las Vegas AJROTC is from Las Vegas, NV, and is coached by Guy Cooper.
Atrisco Heritage Academy MCJROTC currently has a 1 - 5 record. Atrisco Heritage Academy MCJROTC was led by, Stephanie Dominguez who shot a 248.4. The remaining contributing members were Anessa Cordova, Jose Nieto, and Adrian Montano. Atrisco Heritage Academy MCJROTC is from Albuquerque, NM, and is coached by GYSGT Tim Shaner.
This coming week Las Vegas AJROTC has a bye week. While Atrisco Heritage Academy MCJROTC will compete against Kellogg MCJROTC from Kellogg, ID. Kellogg MCJROTC currently has a 3 - 3 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
