LeCanto JROTC defeats El Camino Real NJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season LeCanto JROTC defeated El Camino Real NJROTC 754.4 to 708.3 last week in the National Air Rifle League. They currently have a 2 - 4 record. LeCanto JROTC was led by, Nutrisha Osberg who shot a 222.3. The remaining contributing members were Darian Binghi, Antonio Garrido, and Joseph Zutaut. LeCanto JROTC is from Lecanto, and is coached by Dean Kelly.
El Camino Real NJROTC currently has a 1 - 5 record. El Camino Real NJROTC was led by, Jonathan Gonzalez who shot a 196.5. The remaining contributing members were Samia Sayed, Nash Campbell, and Natalie Mekjian. El Camino Real NJROTC is from Woodland Hills, CA, and is coached by Michael Consoletti.
Next up LeCanto JROTC will compete against Devils Lake AJROTC from Devils Lake, ND. Devils Lake AJROTC currently has a 1 - 5 record. While El Camino Real NJROTC will compete against Harold L. Richards NJROTC from Oak Lawn. Harold L. Richards NJROTC currently has a 3 - 3 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
