Venice MCJROTC defeats Bensalem MCJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Venice MCJROTC defeated Bensalem MCJROTC 1068.1 to 1010.8 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Venice MCJROTC finishes the season in twenty-first place overall and sixth place within their 'Marine Corps Jrotc' conference. They finished the season with a 4 - 3 record. Venice MCJROTC was led by, Julie Waller who shot a 270.7. The remaining contributing members were Collin Speyrer, Tristyn Jordaan, and Samantha Mitizak. Venice MCJROTC is from Venice, FL, and is coached by Frank Troxel.
Snapping a thre game win streak Bensalem MCJROTC finished the season with a 5 - 2 record. They finishes the season in twentieth place overall and fifth place within their 'Marine Corps Jrotc' conference. Shooting their highest team score of the season Bensalem MCJROTC was led by, Mark Tymchenko who shot a 261.9. The remaining contributing members were Danielle Cannalley, Nicholas Donnelly, and Alayna Schnorbus. Bensalem MCJROTC is from Bensalem, PA, and is coached by MSGT Shawn Worthen.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
