New Bern NJROTC Narrowly Defeats Gallatin NJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season New Bern NJROTC edged out Gallatin NJROTC 1013.4 to 1002.5 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their fourth win in a row. New Bern NJROTC finishes the season in sixteenth place overall and fifth place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. They finished the season with a 5 - 2 record. New Bern NJROTC was led by, Jacob Isla who shot a 259.8. The remaining contributing members were Paw Shee, Son Tzu, and Paw Ler . New Bern NJROTC is from New Bern, NC, and is coached by LCDR Ronald Fry.
Snapping a two game win streak Gallatin NJROTC finished the season with a 5 - 2 record. They finishes the season in fifteenth place overall and fourth place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. Shooting their highest team score of the season Gallatin NJROTC was led by, Aiden Brock who shot a 256.2. The remaining contributing members were Ashton Cannon, William Wright, and Rayden Sweet. Gallatin NJROTC is from Portland, TN, and is coached by Duffy A. Thompson.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
