Bensalem MCJROTC Narrowly Defeats Mosley MCJROTC
Bensalem MCJROTC edged out Mosley MCJROTC 1009.6 to 999.3 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Bensalem MCJROTC was led by Michael Sit who shot a 264.9. The remaining contributing members were Shu-Chen Chiang, Madison Germano, and Liam Robinson. They are from Bensalem, PA, and are coached by MSgt Shawn Worthen.
Bensalem MCJROTC is competing in the Distinguished Division where they are currently ranked in twenty-third place. Within the Marine Corps Jrotc Conference they are in sixth place. They have a 2 - 2 record.
Mosley MCJROTC was led by Emily Lucas who shot a 263.9. The remaining contributing members were Kerri Kittrell, Gavin Luther, and Cadence Davey. Mosley MCJROTC is from Lynn Haven, FL, and is coached by Kenneth Hicks.
Mosley MCJROTC is also competing in the Distinguished Division where they are currently ranked in twenty-seventh place. Within the Marine Corps Jrotc Conference they are in seventh place. They have a 1 - 3 record.
Next up Bensalem MCJROTC will compete against Washburn Rural AFJROTC from Topeka, KS. Washburn Rural AFJROTC currently has a 2 - 2 record. While Mosley MCJROTC will compete against Manatee AJROTC from Bradenton, FL. Manatee AJROTC currently has a 4 - 0 record.
Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
