Patuxent NJROTC defeats South Effingham NJROTC
Patuxent NJROTC defeated South Effingham NJROTC 1117.8 to 1075.5 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row. Patuxent NJROTC was led by Christopher Mardones who shot a 286.1. The remaining contributing members were Madeline Vetting , Antara Parekhji, and Rossi Harmon. They are from Lusby, MD, and are coached by 1stSgt Jeffrey Treiber.
Patuxent NJROTC is competing in the Champions Division where they are currently ranked in third place. Within the Navy Jrotc Conference they are in second place. They have a 3 - 0 record.
South Effingham NJROTC was led by Ryton Ekern who shot a 287.5. The remaining contributing members were Cameron Bedford, Asa Alderman, and Andrew Haldenwang. South Effingham NJROTC is from Guyton, GA, and is coached by Terry Stautberg.
South Effingham NJROTC is also competing in the Champions Division where they are currently ranked in seventeenth place. Within the Navy Jrotc Conference they are in sixth place. They have a 0 - 2 record.
Next up Patuxent NJROTC will compete against West Valley MCJROTC from Fairbanks, AK. West Valley MCJROTC currently has a 2 - 1 record. While South Effingham NJROTC will compete against Pace NJROTC from Pace, FL. Pace NJROTC currently has a 3 - 0 record.
Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
