West Broward AJROTC defeated West AJROTC 974.2 to 691.8 last week in the National Air Rifle League. West Broward AJROTC was led by Isabel White who shot a 264.6. The remaining contributing members were Alejandra Lasso, Brenna Humphries, and Kenneth Valladares. They are from Pembroke Pines, FL, and are coached by Kenneth Merkel.
West Broward AJROTC is competing in the Distinguished Division where they are currently ranked in twenty-fifth place. They have a 1 - 2 record.
Snapping a two game win streak West AJROTC was led by Anais Aguirre who shot a 244.2. The remaining contributing members were Alexandro Palma, Yoshua Tamayo, and Kenia Tiscareno- Ceballos. West AJROTC is from Denver, CO, and is coached by Jeffrey F Wilson.
West AJROTC is also competing in the Distinguished Division where they are currently ranked in forty-sixth place. They have a 2 - 1 record.
This coming week West Broward AJROTC has a bye week. While West AJROTC will compete against Northview NJROTC from Bratt, FL. Northview NJROTC currently has a 1 - 1 record.
Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
