Waimea AJROTC Narrowly Defeats Clarkrange AJROTC

Waimea AJROTC edged out Clarkrange AJROTC 1066.1 to 1052.6 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their fourth win in a row. Waimea AJROTC was led by Lee Ann Saniatan who shot a 270.0. The remaining contributing members were Rochelle Uri, Zoey Ruiz, and Brielle Lo. They are from Waimea, HI, and are coached by William Wilder.

Waimea AJROTC is competing in the Distinguished Division where they are currently ranked in second place. Within the Army Jrotc Conference they are in first place. They have a 4 - 1 record.

Clarkrange AJROTC was led by Clayton Laudenslager who shot a 266.2. The remaining contributing members were Azariah Laudenslager, Sydney Beringer, and Savannah Romero. Clarkrange AJROTC is from Clarkrange, TN, and is coached by Steve Dunham.

Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.

The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.

The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.

In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
