North Port NJROTC defeats Ansbach AJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season North Port NJROTC defeated Ansbach AJROTC 1077.8 to 916.8 in the 2023 National Sporter Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row. North Port NJROTC was led by Kyle Hines who shot a 279.1. The remaining contributing members were Kayla Johnston, Brady Cortiville, and John Miller. They are from North Port, FL, and are coached by Dee Barnes.
North Port NJROTC competed in the Elite Division where they finish the regular season in seventh place. Within the Navy Jrotc Conference they finish in fifth place with a 4 - 2 record.
Thanks to their performance this season North Port NJROTC preliminarily qualifies for the Distinguished Division in the 2024 National Air Rifle League.

The league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, kneeling, prone, and standing. Scored in decimal, each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
