Pueblo County AJROTC Narrowly Defeats Trigger Time 4-H Shooting Education Club

Shooting their highest score of the season Pueblo County AJROTC edged out Trigger Time 4-H Shooting Education Club 1126.6 to 1115.3 in the 2023 National Sporter Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row. Pueblo County AJROTC was led by Joshua Romero who shot a 299.5. The remaining contributing members were Maximus Wilcox, Sariga Suresh, and Cheyanne Ainsworth . They are from Pueblo, CO, and are coached by Arnold Lewis.

Pueblo County AJROTC competed in the Champions Division where they finish the regular season in fourteenth place. Within the Army Jrotc Conference they finish in fifth place with a 3 - 2 record.

Next up, Pueblo County AJROTC will be the sixth seed in the postseason Invitational Tournament. In the first round they will square off against third seed C. T. Johnson AJROTC.

Thanks to their performance this season Pueblo County AJROTC preliminarily qualifies for the Champions Division in the 2024 National Air Rifle League Season. To complete their qualification, they must still shoot a minimum qualifying score, set for next season at 1035 (integer score for a 3x10), in a sanctioned competition within the next 10 months.

The league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.

The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.

In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, kneeling, prone, and standing. Scored in decimal, each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
