Southern Indiana Sharpshooters defeats West AJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Southern Indiana Sharpshooters defeated West AJROTC 928 to 896 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win, Southern Indiana Sharpshooters is in eighth place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. They currently have a 4 - 2 record. Southern Indiana Sharpshooters was led by, Emilee Seitz who shot a 259. The remaining contributing members were Xavier Rasche, Abigayle Seitz, and Dalton Cummins. Southern Indiana Sharpshooters is from Jasper, IN, and is coached by Daniel Lawson.
West AJROTC currently has a 3 - 3 record. West AJROTC was led by, Aracely Marquez who shot a 242. The remaining contributing members were Juan Flores, Ignacio Serrano, and Seth Gonzalez. West AJROTC is from Denver, CO, and is coached by Jeffrey Wilson.
Next up Southern Indiana Sharpshooters will compete against Mattoon AJROTC from Mattoon, IL. Mattoon AJROTC currently has a 3 - 3 record. While West AJROTC will compete against Washburn Rural AFJROTC from Topeka, KS. Washburn Rural AFJROTC currently has a 3 - 3 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
