Onate NJROTC defeats Union Pines NJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Onate NJROTC defeated Union Pines NJROTC 1030 to 990 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win, Onate NJROTC is in eighth place overall and second place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 4 - 0 record. Onate NJROTC was led by, Dacota Cribley who shot a 270. The remaining contributing members were Alyssa Epperson, Jayde Dean, and Citlaly Sandoval. Onate NJROTC is from Las Cruces, NM, and is coached by Robert Rodriguez.
Snapping a two game win streak Union Pines NJROTC currently has a 2 - 2 record. After the loss they are in nineteenth place overall and sixth place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. Union Pines NJROTC was led by, Shelby Motta who shot a 256. The remaining contributing members were Jaida Holder, Shaun Garza, and Will Baddour. Union Pines NJROTC is from Whispering Pines, NC, and is coached by Keith Dangerfield.
Next up Onate NJROTC will compete against Warren Central MCJROTC from Indianapolis, IN. Warren Central MCJROTC currently has a 3 - 1 record. While Union Pines NJROTC will compete against Myrtle Beach NJROTC from Pawleys Island, SC. Myrtle Beach NJROTC currently has a 2 - 2 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
