West Broward AJROTC defeats Henderson County AJROTC
West Broward AJROTC defeated Henderson County AJROTC 1050 to 950 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their fifth win in a row. With the win, West Broward AJROTC is in first place overall and first place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 5 - 0 record. West Broward AJROTC was led by, Andrea Aylwin who shot a 265. The remaining contributing members were Justin Barnes, Edward Gispert, and Nistula Seshadri. West Broward AJROTC is from Pembroke Pines, FL, and is coached by Kenneth Merkel.
Henderson County AJROTC currently has a 2 - 1 record. After the loss they are in twenty-second place overall and seventh place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. Henderson County AJROTC was led by, Alexis Fridy who shot a 248. The remaining contributing members were Noah Gosselin, Catherine Cantrell, and Briana Duncan. Henderson County AJROTC is from Henderson, KY, and is coached by Rosentreter Victor.
Next up West Broward AJROTC will compete against Warrenton Rifles from Warrenton, VA. Warrenton Rifles currently has a 4 - 0 record. While Henderson County AJROTC will compete against Mauldin NJROTC from Mauldin, SC. Mauldin NJROTC currently has a 2 - 2 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
