North Mesquite AJROTC Narrowly Defeats Stewarts Creek AJROTC
North Mesquite AJROTC edged out Stewarts Creek AJROTC 1057 to 1043 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row. North Mesquite AJROTC finishes the season in second place overall and first place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. They finished the season with a 7 - 0 record. North Mesquite AJROTC was led by, Nathalie Rios who shot a 270. The remaining contributing members were Bradley Srader, Adriana Robles, and Jorge Perez. North Mesquite AJROTC is from Mesquite, TX, and is coached by Eric Schmidt.
North Mesquite AJROTC will advance to the postseason to compete in the Army JROTC Conference Title game. They will compete against West Broward AJROTC who has a 6 - 1 record. This game is scheduled for 26 November to 2 December 2018.
Snapping a five game win streak Stewarts Creek AJROTC finished the season with a 5 - 1 record. They finishes the season in ninth place overall and seventh place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. Shooting their highest team score of the season Stewarts Creek AJROTC was led by, Jayce Hatcher who shot a 275. The remaining contributing members were Logan Chapman, Zachary Parsons, and Jared Redito. Stewarts Creek AJROTC is from Smyrna, TN, and is coached by LTC Joel Payne.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
