C.T. Johnson AJROTC defeats St. John's College AJROTC
C.T. Johnson AJROTC defeated St. John's College AJROTC 1470 to 1404 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row. C.T. Johnson AJROTC finishes the season in third place overall and second place within their 'Jrotc' conference. They finished the season with a 7 - 0 record. C.T. Johnson AJROTC was led by, Bella Gamez who shot a 378. The remaining contributing members were Isabella Rios, Isabella LaHaye, and Nicholas Thacker. C.T. Johnson AJROTC is from San Antonio, TX, and is coached by MAJ Tom Groggett.
C.T. Johnson AJROTC will advance to the post-season as part of their conference's title game. They will take on Abraham Lincoln for the JROTC Conference title. The game is scheduled for 26 November - 2 December 2018.
St. John's College AJROTC finished the season with a 4 - 3 record. They finishes the season in ninth place overall and sixth place within their 'Jrotc' conference. Shooting their highest team score of the season St. John's College AJROTC was led by, Maria Shepp who shot a 354. The remaining contributing members were Ryan Hunter, Jessica Kolevar, and John Kavanagh. St. John's College AJROTC is from Washington, DC, and is coached by SFC Scheddrick Womack.
These two teams are competing in the Junior Rifle Club Precision Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now. Followed by a single game conference title game for the top two teams in the JROTC and Junior Rifle Club divisions.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Standing Air Rifle match. The match is almost identical to the air rifle events in the Olympic Games. Each athlete shoots 40 shots in the standing position, the most difficult position in rifle competitions. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
