Pickaway Diabolos Narrowly Defeats Newark AFJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Pickaway Diabolos edged out Newark AFJROTC 966 to 954 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row. Pickaway Diabolos finishes the season in third place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. They finished the season with a 4 - 2 record. Pickaway Diabolos was led by, Mallory Hite who shot a 275. The remaining contributing members were Grace Marcum, Brady Tschiggfrie, and Bryson Dudgeon. Pickaway Diabolos is from Circleville, OH, and is coached by Patrick Cherry.
Newark AFJROTC finished the season with a 3 - 3 record. They finishes the season in third place within their 'Air Force Jrotc' conference. Shooting their highest team score of the season Newark AFJROTC was led by, Payton Petersen who shot a 242. The remaining contributing members were Cassidy Davis, Storm Powell, and Hunter Holliday. Newark AFJROTC is from Newark, OH, and is coached by MSgt Christopher Soto.
Next up Pickaway Diabolos will compete against Versailles American Legion from Versailles, IN. Versailles American Legion currently has a 3 - 3 record. While Newark AFJROTC will compete against Southern Indiana Sharpshooters from Jasper, IN. Southern Indiana Sharpshooters currently has a 4 - 2 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
