Joliet Central AJROTC Upsets C. T. Johnson AJROTC
Joliet Central AJROTC upset C. T. Johnson AJROTC 997 to 992 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Joliet Central AJROTC was able to win despite averaging 21 points lower than C. T. Johnson AJROTC coming into this game.
Their second win in a row. Joliet Central AJROTC finishes the season in eighteenth place overall. They finished the season with a 4 - 2 record. Joliet Central AJROTC was led by, Calli Cromwell who shot a 263. The remaining contributing members were Adrian Zamudio, Brandon Sanchez, and Hannah Rausch. Johnson AJROTC was led by, Jacob Saldaña who shot a 257. The remaining contributing members were Emanuel Vazquez, Paul Mankewitz, and Kristen Crawford. C. T. Johnson AJROTC is from San Antonio, TX, and is coached by MAJ Tom Groggett.
Next up Joliet Central AJROTC will compete against Pearl River NJROTC from Pearl River, LA. Pearl River NJROTC currently has a 4 - 1 record. While C. T. Johnson AJROTC will compete against Ridge Community AJROTC from Davenport, FL. Ridge Community AJROTC currently has a 5 - 1 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
