Joliet Central AJROTC defeats Stranahan MCJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Joliet Central AJROTC defeated Stranahan MCJROTC 1012 to 957 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win, Joliet Central AJROTC is in eighteenth place overall. They currently have a 3 - 2 record. Joliet Central AJROTC was led by, Brandon Sanchez who shot a 262. The remaining contributing members were Calli Cromwell, Hannah Rausch, and Kaitlin Facchina. Joliet Central AJROTC is from Joliet, IL, and is coached by SFC Craig Foster.
Stranahan MCJROTC currently has a 2 - 3 record. After the loss they are in seventh place within their 'Marine Corps Jrotc' conference. Stranahan MCJROTC was led by, Karolayne Suarez who shot a 247. The remaining contributing members were Anthony Alexander, Katie Boyce, and Dylon Alexander. Stranahan MCJROTC is from Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and is coached by Wayne Labeau.
Next up Joliet Central AJROTC will compete against C. T. Johnson AJROTC from San Antonio, TX. C. T. Johnson AJROTC currently has a 4 - 1 record. While Stranahan MCJROTC will compete against West Carteret NJROTC from Moorehead City, NC. West Carteret NJROTC currently has a 2 - 3 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
