Grossmont NJROTC defeats Mauldin NJROTC
Grossmont NJROTC defeated Mauldin NJROTC 1001 to 936 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win, Grossmont NJROTC is in twelfth place overall and third place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 5 - 1 record. Grossmont NJROTC was led by, Paulina Mendoza who shot a 260. The remaining contributing members were Calista Zaenger, Summer Oraha, and Jocelyn Brown-Hill. Grossmont NJROTC is from El Cajon, CA, and is coached by Mark Brosnan.
Mauldin NJROTC currently has a 2 - 3 record. After the loss they are in seventh place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. Mauldin NJROTC was led by, Gabe Wentworth who shot a 246. The remaining contributing members were Alex Imm, Charlotte Welsh, and Mykenzye Austin. Mauldin NJROTC is from MAULDIN, SC, and is coached by Denny Shelton.

These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
