C.T. Johnson AJROTC Narrowly Defeats Alaska Eagle Eye Shooting Club
C.T. Johnson AJROTC edged out Alaska Eagle Eye Shooting Club 1476 to 1467 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win, C.T. Johnson AJROTC is in fourth place overall and third place within their 'Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 5 - 0 record. C.T. Johnson AJROTC was led by, Bella Gamez who shot a 373. The remaining contributing members were Isabella Rios, Bradley Knight, and Nicholas Thacker. C.T. Johnson AJROTC is from San Antonio, TX, and is coached by MAJ Tom Groggett.
Alaska Eagle Eye Shooting Club currently has a 3 - 2 record. After the loss they are in fifth place overall and second place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. Shooting their highest team score of the season Alaska Eagle Eye Shooting Club was led by, Madeline Biddinger who shot a 368. The remaining contributing members were Emma MacKenzie, Lindsey Foshee, and Kayla Reifel. Alaska Eagle Eye Shooting Club is from Eagle River, AK, and is coached by Samantha Taylor.
Next up C.T. Johnson AJROTC will compete against Summerlin Academy AJROTC from Bartow, FL. Summerlin Academy AJROTC currently has a 4 - 1 record. While Alaska Eagle Eye Shooting Club will compete against North Gwinnett High School from Sugar Hill, GA. North Gwinnett High School currently has a 5 - 0 record.
These two teams are competing in the Junior Rifle Club Precision Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now. Followed by a single game conference title game for the top two teams in the JROTC and Junior Rifle Club divisions.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Standing Air Rifle match. The match is almost identical to the air rifle events in the Olympic Games. Each athlete shoots 40 shots in the standing position, the most difficult position in rifle competitions. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
