Gateway Rifle and Pistol Club Narrowly Defeats Hickman County JROTC
Gateway Rifle and Pistol Club edged out Hickman County JROTC 898 to 886 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row. With the win, Gateway Rifle and Pistol Club is in fifth place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. They currently have a 3 - 1 record. Gateway Rifle and Pistol Club was led by Bryce Crawford who shot a 261. The remaining contributing members were Ethan Purcell, Dakota Saltford, and Ashtyn Riddle. Gateway Rifle and Pistol Club is from Jacksonville, FL, and is coached by Marion Estes.
Hickman County JROTC currently has a 2 - 1 record. Hickman County JROTC was led by Garrett Cochran who shot a 241. The remaining contributing members were Abigail Gardner, Bailey McNeil, and Raquel Zitta. Hickman County JROTC is from Centerville, TN, and is coached by Charles Price.
Next up Gateway Rifle and Pistol Club will compete against Pearl River NJROTC from Pearl River, LA. Pearl River NJROTC currently has a 3 - 0 record. While Hickman County JROTC will compete against Gallatin NJROTC from Gallatin, TN. Gallatin NJROTC currently has a 3 - 0 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
