New Braunfels MCJROTC Narrowly Defeats Shawnee Mission North NJROTC
New Braunfels MCJROTC edged out Shawnee Mission North NJROTC 980 to 976 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win, New Braunfels MCJROTC is in fifteenth place overall and third place within their 'Marine Corps Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 3 - 1 record. New Braunfels MCJROTC was led by Kaitlyn Funkhouser who shot a 253. The remaining contributing members were Ryan Parker, Micheala Chetwood, and Dani Hill. New Braunfels MCJROTC is from New Braunfels, TX, and is coached by Mark House.
Shawnee Mission North NJROTC currently has a 1 - 3 record. After the loss they are in ninth place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. Shooting their highest team score of the season Shawnee Mission North NJROTC was led by Hope Klassen who shot a 259. The remaining contributing members were Colin Crabtree, Ingrid Valle, and Logan Lawson. Shawnee Mission North NJROTC is from Shawnee Mission, KS, and is coached by Greg Ruminer.

These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
