Henry County NJROTC Narrowly Defeats Bethel AFJROTC
Henry County NJROTC edged out Bethel AFJROTC 1389 to 1374 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Henry County NJROTC finishes the season in sixth place overall and fourth place within their 'Jrotc' conference. They finished the season with a 2 - 2 record. Henry County NJROTC was led by Taylor Harris who shot a 375. The remaining contributing members were Joshua Vaccianna, Kristen Trice, and Alyssa Hires. Henry County NJROTC is from McDonough, GA, and is coached by Clint Houchins.
Bethel AFJROTC finished the season with a 0 - 3 record. They finishes the season in seventh place overall and fifth place within their 'Jrotc' conference. Shooting their highest team score of the season Bethel AFJROTC was led by Savannah Martin who shot a 351. The remaining contributing members were Annabell Tremlett, Cameron Hohnsbehn, and Leanna Boyatt. Bethel AFJROTC is from Spanaway, WA, and is coached by SMSgt Steve Tkach.
This coming week Henry County NJROTC has a bye week. While Bethel AFJROTC will compete against Alaska Eagle Eye Shooting Club from Eagle River, AK. Alaska Eagle Eye Shooting Club currently has a 2 - 1 record.
These two teams are competing in the Junior Rifle Club Precision Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now. Followed by a single game conference title game for the top two teams in the JROTC and Junior Rifle Club divisions.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Standing Air Rifle match. The match is almost identical to the air rifle events in the Olympic Games. Each athlete shoots 40 shots in the standing position, the most difficult position in rifle competitions. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
