Ramona NJROTC defeats Hawthorne NJROTC
Ramona NJROTC defeated Hawthorne NJROTC 1041 to 976 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row, Ramona NJROTC is in third place in their Division with a 4 - 2 record. Ramona NJROTC was led by Nicole Lewis who shot a 269. The remaining contributing members were Joseph Schultz, Marisa Houry, and Hailey Henshaw. Ramona NJROTC is from Ramona, CA, and is coached by CPO Bob Richardson.
Hawthorne NJROTC dropped to 1 - 5 on the season. They are currently in seventh place in their Division. Shooting their highest team score of the season Hawthorne NJROTC was led by NICK MONCADA who shot a 253. The remaining contributing members were Javier Moreno, JONATHON VILLAGOMEZ, and MEGHAN UITZ. Hawthorne NJROTC is from Hawthorne, CA, and is coached by CDR Don Urquidez.

These two teams are competing in the Navy JROTC Champions Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The Champions Division is the most difficult division in the league. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
