Kamehameha Schools Hawai'i defeats Trigger Time 4-H Shooting Education Club Wins the Sporter Distinguished Junior Rifle Club Conference

Kamehameha Schools Hawai'i defeated Trigger Time 4-H Shooting Education Club 2253.2 to 2148.6 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win Kamehameha Schools Hawai'i wins the Sporter Distinguished Junior Rifle Club Conference title. They finished the season in with an aggregate 8 - 0 record. Kamehameha Schools Hawai'i was led by Colby Terlep who shot a 576.1. The remaining contributing members were Briani Iyo, Kylie Iwamoto, Calleigh-Rose Lee, and Ciara Ortega. Kamehameha Schools Hawai'i is from Keaau, HI, and is coached by Kelly Galdones.

Trigger Time 4-H Shooting Education Club finished the season with a 4 - 4 record and second place in the conference. Trigger Time 4-H Shooting Education Club was led by Grace Richter who shot a 551.1. The remaining contributing members were Samantha Erick, Samantha Seagle, Lexi Strand, and Noah Richter. These two teams are competed in the Sporter Distinguished Junior Rifle Club Conference title game. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season, followed by this single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.

In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shot 20 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 60 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
