Rossview AJROTC Narrowly Defeats Mattoon AJROTC
Rossview AJROTC edged out Mattoon AJROTC 976.9 to 964.7 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row. With the win, Rossview AJROTC is in twenty-fourth place overall and fifth place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 3 - 3 record. Rossview AJROTC was led by, Antippatai Vonkasai who shot a 258.7. The remaining contributing members were Rachel Cassella, Kaden Santos, and Bradly Scharnhorst. Rossview AJROTC is from Clarksville, TN, and is coached by MAJ John R. Braun Jr..
Mattoon AJROTC currently has a 2 - 4 record. After the loss they are in eighth place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. Mattoon AJROTC was led by, Larissa Kelly who shot a 257.7. The remaining contributing members were Isabel Spear, Campbell Beadles, and Conner Pickering. Mattoon AJROTC is from Mattoon, IL, and is coached by Todd Stokes.
Next up Rossview AJROTC will compete against Bellevue West AFJROTC from Bellevue, NE. Bellevue West AFJROTC currently has a 4 - 2 record. While Mattoon AJROTC will compete against Juneau District Rifle Team from Juneau, AK. Juneau District Rifle Team currently has a 5 - 1 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
