Gallatin NJROTC defeats Grossmont NJROTC
Gallatin NJROTC defeated Grossmont NJROTC 993.5 to 960.3 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win, Gallatin NJROTC is in sixteenth place overall and fourth place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 4 - 1 record. Gallatin NJROTC was led by, Ashton Cannon who shot a 257.6. The remaining contributing members were Aiden Brock, William Wright, and Rayden Sweet. Gallatin NJROTC is from Portland, TN, and is coached by Duffy A. Thompson.
Grossmont NJROTC currently has a 2 - 4 record. After the loss they are in seventh place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. Grossmont NJROTC was led by, Zita Huang who shot a 259.7. The remaining contributing members were Malia Lebhar, Ailed Sempolt, and Damion Hernandez. Grossmont NJROTC is from El Cajon, CA, and is coached by Max Velasquez.
Next up Gallatin NJROTC will compete against Liberty County AJROTC from Bristol, FL. Liberty County AJROTC currently has a 4 - 0 record. While Grossmont NJROTC has a bye week.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
