Stratford PAL Jr. Rifle Club defeats Pickaway Diabolos
Stratford PAL Jr. Rifle Club defeated Pickaway Diabolos 1549.2 to 1507.9 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row. With the win, Stratford PAL Jr. Rifle Club is in thirteenth place overall and fifth place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. They currently have a 3 - 4 record. Stratford PAL Jr. Rifle Club was led by, Haley Reynolds who shot a 392.1. The remaining contributing members were Lauren Chechoski, Taylor Niemiec, and Veronica Martino. Stratford PAL Jr. Rifle Club is from Stratford, CT, and is coached by CPT Alan Wilcoxson.
Pickaway Diabolos currently has a 2 - 4 record. After the loss they are in twenty-first place overall and ninth place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. Shooting their highest team score of the season Pickaway Diabolos was led by, Riley Minor who shot a 395.9. The remaining contributing members were Mallory Hite, Grace Marcum, and Bryson Dudgeon. Pickaway Diabolos is from Circleville, OH, and is coached by Patrick D. Cherry.
This coming week Stratford PAL Jr. Rifle Club has a bye week. While Pickaway Diabolos will compete against Piedra Vista AJROTC from Farmington, NM. Piedra Vista AJROTC currently has a 3 - 3 record.
These two teams are competing in the Precision Champions Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The Champions Division is the most difficult division in the conference. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Standing Air Rifle match. The match is nearly identical to the air rifle events in the Olympic Games. Each athlete shoots 40 shots in the standing position, the most difficult position in rifle competitions. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
