West Carteret NJROTC defeats Stranahan MCJROTC
West Carteret NJROTC defeated Stranahan MCJROTC 980 to 959 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row. West Carteret NJROTC finishes the season in fifth place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. They finished the season with a 3 - 3 record. West Carteret NJROTC was led by, James Gaskill who shot a 250. The remaining contributing members were Atlee Pool, Angelina Neufeld, and Hayden Winchell. West Carteret NJROTC is from Moorehead City, NC, and is coached by Col Giani.
Stranahan MCJROTC finished the season with a 2 - 4 record. They finishes the season in sixth place within their 'Marine Corps Jrotc' conference. Shooting their highest team score of the season Stranahan MCJROTC was led by, Anthony Alexander who shot a 246. The remaining contributing members were Karolayne Suarez, Katie Boyce, and Dylon Alexander. Stranahan MCJROTC is from Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and is coached by Wayne Labeau.
Next up West Carteret NJROTC will compete against Grossmont NJROTC from El Cajon, CA. Grossmont NJROTC currently has a 5 - 1 record. While Stranahan MCJROTC will compete against Robert G. Cole AJROTC from San Antonio, TX. Robert G. Cole AJROTC currently has a 2 - 4 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
