Bethel AFJROTC defeats Henderson County AJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Bethel AFJROTC defeated Henderson County AJROTC 1403 to 1376 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Bethel AFJROTC finishes the season in seventh place overall and fifth place within their 'Jrotc' conference. They finished the season with a 1 - 5 record. Bethel AFJROTC was led by, Brendon Styf who shot a 361. The remaining contributing members were Annabell Tremlett, Savannah Martin, and Leanna Boyatt. Bethel AFJROTC is from Spanaway, WA, and is coached by SMSgt Steve Tkach.
Henderson County AJROTC finished the season with a 0 - 6 record. They finishes the season in eleventh place overall and eighth place within their 'Jrotc' conference. Shooting their highest team score of the season Henderson County AJROTC was led by, Zachariah Stokes who shot a 357. The remaining contributing members were Emma Olson, Justin Morgan, and Briana Duncan. Henderson County AJROTC is from Henderson, KY, and is coached by Rosentreter Victor.
Next up Bethel AFJROTC will compete against Bears Ears Sportsman Club from Craig, CO. Bears Ears Sportsman Club currently has a 2 - 3 record. While Henderson County AJROTC will compete against Alaska Eagle Eye Shooting Club from Eagle River, AK. Alaska Eagle Eye Shooting Club currently has a 3 - 3 record.
These two teams are competing in the Junior Rifle Club Precision Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now. Followed by a single game conference title game for the top two teams in the JROTC and Junior Rifle Club divisions.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Standing Air Rifle match. The match is almost identical to the air rifle events in the Olympic Games. Each athlete shoots 40 shots in the standing position, the most difficult position in rifle competitions. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
