Johnson County 4-H defeats Appling Bulldogs
Shooting their highest score of the season Johnson County 4-H defeated Appling Bulldogs 1835 to 1802 last week in the National BB Gun League. With the win, Johnson County 4-H is in sixth place in their Division with a 1 - 1 record. Johnson County 4-H was led by Jennifer JO-Commerford who shot a 375. The remaining contributing members were Chase JO-Eccles, Ben JO-Rogers, Abby JO-Lawrenz, and John JO-Shreve II. Johnson County 4-H is from Shawnee, KS, and is coached by Mike Smith.
Appling Bulldogs dropped to 0 - 2 on the season. They are currently in seventh place in their Division. Appling Bulldogs was led by Ally Atkinson who shot a 384. The remaining contributing members were Ethan Carter, Susan Carter, Lizzie Bell, and Lauren Kearney. Appling Bulldogs is from Baxley, GA, and is coached by Jeffrey McLellan.
Next up Johnson County 4-H will compete against Walton County 4-H from Monroe, GA. Walton County 4-H currently has a 1 - 1 record. Appling Bulldogs will compete against Wayne County 4-H from Jesup, GA. Wayne County 4-H currently has a 0 - 2 record.
These two teams are competing in the Champions Division of the Orion National BB Gun League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for BB Gun teams. The Champions Division is comprised of the top teams in the league. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top four teams who will compete for the league championship.
BB Gun programs teach gun safety and competitive marksmanship skills to athletes 8 to 15 years of age. Each game in the league teams compete in what is known as a four-position match. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in four different shooting positions, prone, standing, sitting and kneeling at a distance of 5m. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best five athletes from each team.
