Pierre Junior Shooters Edges Walton County 4-H
Shooting their highest score of the season Pierre Junior Shooters edged out Walton County 4-H 1889 to 1879 last week in the National BB Gun League. Uniquely this game featured the last two Daisy National BB Gun Champions. Pierre Junior Shooters won the championship in 2016, Walton County 4-H won in 2015.
Their second win in a row, Pierre Junior Shooters is in first place in their Division with a 2 - 0 record. Pierre Junior Shooters was led by Justin Merriman who shot a 383. The remaining contributing members were Alee Smith, Natalie Mohr, Nick Roggenbuck, and Jessica Hays. Pierre Junior Shooters is from Pierre, SD, and is coached by Sean Kruger and Jon Hays.
Walton County 4-H dropped to 1 - 1 on the season. They are currently in third place in their Division. Walton County 4-H was led by Lucy Peters who shot a 390. The remaining contributing members were Emily Goitia, Jackson Davis, Tony Stacy, and Mason Harper. Walton County 4-H is from Monroe, GA, and is coached by William Carlan.
Next up Pierre Junior Shooters will compete against Carroll County 4-H from Bowden, GA. Carroll County 4-H currently has a 1 - 1 record. Walton County 4-H will compete against Johnson County 4-H from Shawnee, KS. Johnson County 4-H currently has a 1 - 1 record.
These two teams are competing in the Champions Division of the Orion National BB Gun League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for BB Gun teams. The Champions Division is comprised of the top teams in the league. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top four teams who will compete for the league championship.
BB Gun programs teach gun safety and competitive marksmanship skills to athletes 8 to 15 years of age. Each game in the league teams compete in what is known as a four-position match. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in four different shooting positions, prone, standing, sitting and kneeling at a distance of 5m. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best five athletes from each team.
