El Camino Real NJROTC defeats Lehman NJROTC
El Camino Real NJROTC defeated Lehman NJROTC 851 to 431 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row, El Camino Real NJROTC is in sixth place in their Division with a 2 - 2 record. El Camino Real NJROTC was led by Naomy Soo Hoo who shot a 226. The remaining contributing members were Melody Soo Hoo, Ashley Soo Hoo, and Romona Dong. El Camino Real NJROTC is from Woodland Hills, CA, and is coached by Michael Consoletti.
Lehman NJROTC dropped to 1 - 3 on the season. They are currently in seventh place in their Division. Lehman NJROTC was led by Rayna Webb who shot a 231. The remaining contributing members were Samuel Gonzalez, John Berry, and Christian Brothers. Lehman NJROTC is from Kyle, TX, and is coached by John Berry.
Next up El Camino Real NJROTC will compete against William Floyd NJROTC from Mastic Beach, NY. William Floyd NJROTC currently has a 0 - 4 record. Lehman NJROTC will compete against Los Alamos NJROTC from Los Alamos, NM. Los Alamos NJROTC currently has a 2 - 2 record.
These two teams are competing in the Navy JROTC Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
