New Braunfels MCJROTC defeats A. C. Mosley MCJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season New Braunfels MCJROTC defeated A. C. Mosley MCJROTC 1004 to 970 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row, New Braunfels MCJROTC is in fourth place in their Division with a 2 - 1 record. New Braunfels MCJROTC was led by Janie Aguilar who shot a 256. The remaining contributing members were Samuel Baumbach, Greg Mueller, and Micheala Chetwood. New Braunfels MCJROTC is from New Braunfels, TX, and is coached by Mark House.
A. C. Mosley MCJROTC dropped to 1 - 3 on the season. They are currently in sixth place in their Division. A. C. Mosley MCJROTC was led by ALYSSA CHESTERFIELD who shot a 249. Next up New Braunfels MCJROTC will compete against Topeka MCJROTC from Topeka, KS. Topeka MCJROTC currently has a 1 - 3 record. A. C. Mosley MCJROTC will compete against Muncie Central MCJROTC from Muncie, IN. Muncie Central MCJROTC currently has a 0 - 4 record.
These two teams are competing in the Marine Corps JROTC Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
