Abraham Lincoln AJROTC defeated South Brunswick AJROTC 1068 to 1026 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Abraham Lincoln AJROTC finishes the regular season in first place in their Division with a 7 - 0 record. Abraham Lincoln AJROTC was led by David Lara who shot a 271. The remaining contributing members were Montse Corona, Crystal Galvan, and Hope Hernandez. Abraham Lincoln AJROTC is from Denver, CO, and is coached by MSG Mark Beasley.
Abraham Lincoln AJROTC's season will continue next week in the Post-Season tournament. They received an at-large bid and will be seeded fourth. They will compete against fifth seed Fountain Fort Carson AJROTC in the opening game.
Snapping a six game win streak South Brunswick AJROTC dropped to 6 - 1 on the season. They finish the season in second place in their Division. South Brunswick AJROTC was led by Christina Girard who shot a 262. The remaining contributing members were Taylor Morgan, Rayana Edge, and Tommy Nguyen. South Brunswick AJROTC is from Southport, NC, and is coached by Gary Crowden.
By virtue of finishing in the top two in the Distinguished Division this season, Both Abraham Lincoln AJROTC and South Brunswick AJROTC will be promoted and squadded in the Champion's Division in the 2017 season.
These two teams are competing in the Army JROTC Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
