Fort Campbell AJROTC defeats R. L. Paschal AJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Fort Campbell AJROTC defeated R. L. Paschal AJROTC 941 to 880 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win, Fort Campbell AJROTC is in fourth place in their Division with a 2 - 1 record. Fort Campbell AJROTC was led by Julia Ross who shot a 244. The remaining contributing members were Kaitlin Wood, Craig Alia, and Pilar Lares. Fort Campbell AJROTC is from Fort Campbell, KY, and is coached by Ira Turner.
R. L. Paschal AJROTC dropped to 0 - 3 on the season. They are currently in seventh place in their Division. R. L. Paschal AJROTC was led by Blake Lenington who shot a 231. The remaining contributing members were Jesus Jimenez, Dulce Flores, and Molly Carmen. R. L. Paschal AJROTC is from Fort Worth, TX, and is coached by Terry LeBoeuf.
Next up Fort Campbell AJROTC will compete against Marion AJROTC from Marion, IN. Marion AJROTC currently has a 3 - 1 record. R. L. Paschal AJROTC will compete against Joliet Central AJROTC from Joliet, IL. Joliet Central AJROTC currently has a 2 - 2 record.
These two teams are competing in the Army JROTC Elite Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
