Lafayette Gun Club defeats Sutter Union High School
Lafayette Gun Club defeated Sutter Union High School 2447.4 to 2403.3 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row. Lafayette Gun Club was led by Victoria Koenig who shot a 615.5. The remaining contributing members were Matthew Stout, Brandon Evans, and Maria Koenig. They are from Yorktown, VA, and are coached by Jason Stout.
Lafayette Gun Club is competing in the Champions Division where they are currently ranked in first place. Within the Junior Rifle Club Conference they are in first place. They have a 5 - 0 record.
Shooting their highest team score of the season Sutter Union High School was led by Marissa Fedora who shot a 614.3. The remaining contributing members were Savannah Criddle, Lily Miller, and Jake Heitman. Sutter Union High School is from Sutter, CA, and is coached by Allen Jaynes.
Sutter Union High School is also competing in the Champions Division where they are currently ranked in seventh place. Within the Junior Rifle Club Conference they are in fourth place. They have a 1 - 4 record.

Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Standing Air Rifle match. The match is nearly identical to the air rifle events in the Olympic Games. Each athlete shoots 60 shots in the standing position, the most difficult position in rifle competitions. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 60 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
